The cultural events

China is a significant birthplace of human civilization with over 5000 years of history.  During the development of the ancient Egyptian, Babylonian and Indian civilizations, the Xia, Shang and Western Zhou dynasties were growing in China.  During the heyday of Greek and Roman city states in Europe, the thought and culture of the Spring, Autumn and Warring States periods prospered and China grew to be one of the worlds’ two main civilizations.

China, a unitary multi-national country where, through the long process of historical development, people from vast ethnic groups have together shaped a unique culture, forming the Chinese nation as we know it today.

Cultural exchange between China and other nations across the earth exploded due to some of her great inventions like paper, gunpowder, the compass, the technology of printing, along with china and silk.  The essence of the Chinese culture is conveyed by her people through their poems, art, music, dance and drama which is usually an expression of their love of nature and their deep value of moral obligations and ethics.

HLS Mandarin Centre strives to introduce this beautiful culture to South African people by hosting various cultural events such as the traditional tea party, Chinese calligraphy lessons, Chinese chess lesson and cooking lessons.
